. The Leica confocal SP2 microscope has many useful features. The microscope allows researchers to focus on specific components inside a cell.  Thin, 2-Dimensional, sequential, sections of a cell component may be scanned and stacked together allowing the user to build 3-Dimensional images or movies of interesting cellular structures.  Additionally, the confocal microscope allows researchers to show co-localization of signals from different fluorochromes.  Specimens can be double- or triple-labeled for different cellular molecules or structures; nucleic acids are stained red while proteins are labeled green.  These signals then can be captured in different channels allowing individual or collective views. This information can also be used to build 3-Dimensional images or movies.
