Agilent BioAnalyzer 2100

The Agilent Bioanalyzer is used to analyze the quality of RNA, DNA and Proteins.

Total RNA

The Bioanalyzer can qualitate and quanitate small amounts of total RNA. 1ul of RNA (25ng/ul to 1ug/ul) is needed to analyze the sample. The 28s and 18s ribosomal peaks are measured then used to determine the quality. The 28s/18s ratio should be greater then 1.5. For more information, see Ambion’s Tech Note 11(1). A RIN (RNA Integrity Number) is also used to gauge the quality. The RIN ranges from 1(totally degraded RNA) to 10(completely intact RNA). The Bioanalyzer should be used on all Microarray and LCM samples.
